Building a Love of Reading Across CHSD 170!
Chicago Heights School District 170 partnered with the Diversity Scholarship Foundation to host special Family Reading Nights at Kennedy, Roosevelt, and Greenbriar Schools, bringing together students, families, educators, and community leaders to celebrate literacy and learning.
Through the generosity of legal professionals, hundreds of books collected at the Illinois Appellate and Markham Courthouses were donated and distributed to students, ensuring families had access to age-appropriate reading materials to enjoy together at home throughout the summer.
This meaningful initiative was chaired by CHSD 170 Board Member Joanna Panici and Illinois Appellate Justice Jesse Reyes, President of the Diversity Scholarship Foundation. Special thanks to Assistant Special Education Director Chris Baikauskas for coordinating the events and helping bring this vision to life.
We are grateful to the judges, elected officials, district and school leaders, and teachers who supported these events and helped create memorable experiences for our families. These special evenings promoted literacy, community engagement, and the importance of education while giving students the chance to connect with inspiring leaders. Thank you to all of our guests for supporting our students and families!
