What is an E-Learning or Home Learning Day?

Developed by the Illinois State Board of Education, E-Learning or Home Learning Days allow student learning to continue on inclement weather days.  The activities enable students to continue learning when schools are closed due to severe weather and takes place instead of traditional "snow days."  E-Learning or Home Learning Days also may be used to allow teachers to participate in professional development endeavors.

 

How will I know if SD170 has an E-Learning or Home Learning Day?

This information will be posted on the school district's website (sd170.com) and communicated through other means (social media, text messages, local media, robocalls, etc.) when the decision has been made to close schools.

 

How will my child receive the assignments for the day(s)?

Teachers will send E-Learning or Home Learning Day assignments home with students in anticipation of a school closing.  E-learning lessons will take place through learning platforms already used in the classroom (Class Dojo, Google Classroom, Pearson Realize, McGraw Hill, e-mails, etc.)  

Should your child be absent on the day assignments are sent home, please e-mail your child's teacher or the school principal to establish the best method for obtaining the assignments.

 

Does my child need to be on a computer for the length of the school day?

No!  E-Learning or Home Learning Days are designed to provide flexibility in the learning process according to family needs and schedules.

 

What if my child doesn't understand how to complete some or all of the work?

The E-Learning or Home Learning Day assignments are designed to continue learning that has been ongoing in the classroom.  The assignments will not include new content. Teachers will check their e-mail throughout the day so that they will be able to respond to questions concerning the assignments in a timely manner.  Teachers also will be available when school reopens to answer any questions. Students will have one week to turn in completed work after the E-Learning or Home Learning Days occur.

 

When is my child expected to turn in E-Learning or Home Learning Day assignments?

Students will have one week to complete assignments and turn them in to their teacher(s).

 

How is attendance taken on E-Learning or Home Learning Days?

Student work that is completed and turned in within one week of school reopening after an E-Learning or Home Learning Day will be used to determine student attendance.

 

What if our home does not have internet access?

For one week following an E-Learning or Home Learning Day, your child's school will provide students with opportunities both before and after school to access technology required to complete assignments.  

 

What if my child does not complete the assignments on time?

Students who do not complete E-Learning or Home Learning Day assignments within one week will be marked absent.  Should extenuating circumstances occur, please contact your child's teacher or building principal to remediate the matter.
