Greetings, Chicago Heights 170 Families!
For the last few weeks, we have been working very hard to plan for all the contingencies that
will be needed for the upcoming school year. We have developed three transition teams:
Academic, Health and Well-Being, and Operations and Facilities. These teams will guide us
through the decision making process.
Each team will follow the guidance and safety guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control &
Prevention (CDC), the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and the Illinois State Board
of Education (ISBE). By following these guidelines we feel we can significantly reduce the risk
of transmission of COVID-19 at our schools.
We are asking everyone to please visit our website www.sd170.com to complete the Remote
Learning Survey-Collecting Further Information so that we have up to date information to help
our transition teams make well - informed, educated decisions.
ISBE has come out with guidance that will help shape our plans for opening our schools. Our
goal at SD 170 is to reduce the risk of a Covid19 outbreak by following the guidance and safety
guidelines suggested by the CDC, IDPH, and ISBE.
ISBE's guidance outlines the following:
● Require the use of appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including face
coverings;
● Prohibit more than 50 individuals from gathering in one space;
● Require social distancing be observed, as much as possible;
● Require that schools conduct symptom screenings and temperature checks or require
that individuals self-certify that they are free of symptoms before entering school
buildings; and
● Require an increase in schoolwide cleaning and disinfection.
As our plans are not solidified just yet, I did want to let you know we are considering various
scenarios as requested by ISBE. Those scenarios include instruction via remote learning and a
hybrid method.
We ask that you allow us time to develop a plan that will provide our 3000 students and 600 staff
members a safe return to school. We also ask for grace and patience as we navigate this new
experience. It will take time to create plans that address the many facets associated with
returning to school. Our goal is to have our transition plan by early August.
Once again, I ask that you complete the survey which is located on our website, or you can click
