students in rainbow tee's after planting tree

The students and staff of Chicago Heights School District 170's Kennedy School recently held a memorial service during which a tree was planted to celebrate the memory of Nadine DiNuzzo, a teacher at the school who passed away earlier this year.

The Friendship Tree, honoring DiNuzzo's years of service and dedication to the students, families, and staff at Kennedy School and CHSD 170, stands as a testament to her commitment to serving the community.

Mrs. DiNuzzo taught at Kennedy for ten years but had a career encompassing 40 years of teaching experience. She started at Kennedy as a Reading Specialist and taught various grades throughout the years. Mrs. DiNuzzo loved teaching Math and also instilled in her students a love of nature, exhibited by her penchant for having class pets (frogs, praying mantis, albino salamanders, etc.) most of which were rescued by her students.

The students whom she taught during her incredible career include Tom Amadio, Superintendent of Schools for CHSD170, Shannon Vera, the district's Bilingual Director, and Angela Jacobucci, the Reading Teacher at Kennedy School.
