PBIS at Washington McKinley School
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach to establishing the behavioral supports and social culture needed for all students in a school to achieve social emotional and academic success.
Students participate monthly in Cool Tools and positive behaviors are rewarded with signing RESPECT squares. RESPECT squares are posted in each classroom and function like a BINGO board. Every two weeks RESPECT squares are called and winning students are recognized for their postive contributions to the school community by selecting a prize. Prizes include dress down passes, school supplies, lunch with a teacher, Wear a Hat to School pass, and much more.
Each classroom has monthly classroom celebrations for students that qualify. At the end of each trimester, PBIS hosts a school-wide celebration.
PBIS and PTO have recently teamed up to introduce a Staff of the Month initiative. Staff members are recognized for their hard work and postiive contributions to the school by being recognized on the main bulletin board and with a special announcement.
