A pair of students from Chicago Heights School District 170’s STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Academy made a well-received presentation at the “Women in STEAM” luncheon held recently in Homewood.

The presentation made by Bella Richie Beeler and Adriana Rodriguez centered on the STEM Academy’s curricular and extra-curricular programming and highlighted the experiences as STEM Academy students. The five-minute presentation included photos and general information about the academy’s various endeavors.

“Having the opportunity to participate in an event like Women in STEAM Luncheon was an exciting and enriching experience,” Beeler said.

“A gathering like this one assured us that women, young women especially, can be powerful, intelligent and successful people," Rodriguez added.

Tiffany White, a Math teacher at School District 206, was most impressed with the young ladies’ presentation.

“As a former Engineering professional and current teacher of Mathematics I attended the recent STEAM luncheon for young girls and saw an awesome presentation by two students from the SD170 STEM Academy,” White said.

“The young ladies were well-spoken, knowledgeable and superb representatives of the many young women who seek careers in the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) environment.”

J. R. Entsminger, the STEM Academy’s Assistant Director, was grateful for the opportunity the luncheon afforded his students.

"I would like to thank the gifted educators who helped coordinate such an important event,” Entsminger said. “Also, I'm thrilled that two of our students were invited to share their experiences and represent the STEM Magnet Academy. They did a marvelous job!"
