William Seidelmann
  • I hope you are all having a restful summer! I would like to take a few minutes to introduce myself. My name is Will Seidelmann, and I will be the new principal for the Chicago Heights Middle School- Home of the Spartans- opening the summer of 2020!

I couldn’t be more excited to start this year in District 170, but first, how I got here. I attended Eastern Illinois and earned dual certificates in Elementary Education with a Math Concentration and Special Education (K-12.) I began teaching with Southwest Cook County Cooperative for Special Education in their Communication Development (C.D.) Program housed at Andrew High School. I then left the cooperative to coach and move to more of a math focus. At Plainfield Central High School, I taught students with emotional and behavior disorders and mathematics (Algebra 1 and 2.) I coached varsity girls’ volleyball and freshmen girls’ softball. I completed my masters in Educational Leadership at Concordia University and my Special Education Directors Endorsement at Lewis University. I then moved into administration as the Assistant Principal in North Palos at Conrady Junior High School. After two years, I left to become the Principal at Hickory Creek Middle School in Frankfort.

I spent four amazing years in Frankfort where we earned athletic and academic awards. We won several athletic state championships, awards in Mathletes, Speech and Scholastic Bowl, and our Band, Orchestra and Chorus programs were extremely successful too.  Hickory Creek was also named a 2018 Blue Ribbon School of Excellence and was recognized as a Model Middle School through the Horizons Schools to Watch Program and Association of Illinois Middle Grade Schools (AIMS.)

This year, I am privileged to dedicate a majority of my time to planning and preparing for the successful opening of the new Chicago Heights Middle School. In addition, I will be working with the 6th through 8th grade mathematics team alongside Ms. Bishop. I began working a few weeks ago in “The Heights” and each day is a new project and adventure. My hope is that through this planning, while you all are focused on an amazing 2019-2020 school year, that I can live two worlds; the 2019-2020 mathematics world and the 2020-2021 Inaugural Middle School Opening year!

My experiences as a teacher, coach and administrator have taught me that teachers appreciate the most up to date information on their school and district climate and culture. In order for me to learn more about Chicago Heights, I ask that all staff (teachers, administrators, support staff, etc.) complete the survey I have created on Google. Your feedback will help the leadership team create goals, objectives, and a thorough communication plan for all constituents.

In this email, I have also attached a calendar of my open office hour times. These time periods are for any staff member to meet with me on a 1:1 basis so I can get to know you as an educator and every day human. If you are busy enjoying your summer and cannot make it into school do not stress :) I will have a traveling office throughout this year so that I can spend time in 5th through 8th grade classrooms. My plan is to get to know the teachers and the students prior to the building opening. (Current 5th graders will be the first 6th grade class and current 7th graders will be the first graduating class from the new middle school.)

I look forward to reading your responses to the survey and getting to know each of you! Have a great rest of your summer. https://forms.gle/UFSrL8K31LzRmqBt6
