An essential part of educating our students is the need to provide them with a safe and comfortable learning environment.

With the aging buildings in School District 170, there is a tremendous need to update the infrastructure of our facilities. We will begin to address this need during the summer when we start an extensive, multimillion-dollar, renovative process at Garfield and Greenbriar Schools.

    Garfield School:

The work at Garfield School will consist of the removal of the building’s existing rooftop units and the installation of new energy-efficient models that will provide air conditioning for the building. The project also will include the installation of new suspended ceilings and LED light fixtures with room sensing controls throughout the building. August 2018 is the scheduled completion date for this project.

    Greenbriar School:

The work a Greenbriar School will consist of the removal of the building’s heating system and the replacement of the system with a new energy-efficient model. In addition to the new heating system, air conditioning will be extended to include the whole school. The project also will include the installation of new suspended ceilings and LED light fixtures with room sensing controls throughout the building. August 2018 is the scheduled completion date for this project.

    CHSD170’s New Middle School:

At this time, the district is in the final stages of design for the new middle school and plans on soliciting bids next month. The new middle school’s targeted completion date is June 2020.
